TruismNow.net - An exercise in applied sensibility

In our complex world the tendency is to misplace that vital sense of what’s true and what sets the truth apart from what is unrealistic, imagined or made up. We know that history is real because in history there are some discernible truths, verities that enhances our understanding of things, giving us the tools we need to produce a better reality. Yet who’s to say we can ever be sure to learn the right lessons from history in a society that doesn’t clearly separate truth from everything else in its perception of reality.

So What is Real, and what role should the truth play in framing an accurate reality?

A look back on human history informs us that racism is real; that poverty and starvation is real. Indifference is real. Affluence is real. Tenable possibilities are real. Ignorance is real and the motivation to perpetuate ignorance is very real; just as greed is real, hate is real, power is real, survival of the fittest is real, all of which serves to make undue suffering an unfortunate reality for many. Fortunately, ideas are real and dreams are real, and that makes the human potential real. The future, on the other hand, is not real so the possibilities of guessing it wrong is very real. The theorem is that history not only tells us what happened in the past, it also tells us what need to happen in the future. We vote to give truth a chance at creating a better future by redefining what it is that make the human experience real.
